If you’re hungry for a new event during the Lake Mills Sesquicentennial Celebration, July 10-12, snag a boat, a pole and a partner for the first annual Bass Fishing Tournament.
Adam Odegaard, 2003 LMHS grad, is the tournament director setting up this event. This will be his third fishing tournament as a director.
The Tournament on Silver Lake, rural Northwood, will take place, Sunday, July 12, beginning at 6 a.m.. Registrants are asked to be there about 15 minutes prior, for instructions. The minimum length for bass (lowered from the normal 16-inches) is 13-1/2” in length, and registrants can catch a total of five fish. The tourney will end at 1:30 p.m. for the live weigh-in, pictures, and awards. All fish will be released back to the Lake.
“Since they restored Silver Lake (2012), it’s a pretty nice lake for fishing,” said Odegaard. “I’ve decided that this is a way I can give back to the community. Half of the profits will go to the Lake Mills Fire Department, EMS, and Lake Mills Police Department, for all they do for the community.”
Odegaard said, there is a 35-boat maximum. Entries must be mailed to Molly Odegaard, Secretary, 102 S. Harrison St., Lake Mills, 50450. Deadline for registration by mail is July 10. Last minute registrations will be accepted Saturday morning, but by cash only.
Also, on Saturday at Oakwood Park, there will be a booth where tickets can be purchased for a chance to win prizes donated by local businesses and from the official tournament sponsors. Prizes will include items like first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and fishing items.
