Resignations and new hires approved by school board

The LMCS board met Monday morning, July 16. Presentation was given by Mrs. Ingledue on EMC insurance updates and premium increase for the year is very minimal. She noted that the school has done a good job of addressing the “slip, trip, and fall” areas by updating and utilizing the resources from EMC to avoid potential issues down the road.
Kari Wagner reported on summer camp and the work being done to assist elementary students with the academic “summer slide” when they are not in school.
Superintendent Chad Kohagen reported on the work being done around the school. The gym floor is complete and ready to go. The tuckpointing and roofing projects are complete. The asbestos removal is being finished up this week and the foyer bathrooms will be done in a few more weeks. Classroooms and floors are all getting cleaned and waxed for the quickly approaching start of school.
New business of the board dealt with piano bids for two older pianos and no bids were received. The board brainstormed a few other options, as no one wants to see them trashed. It may come down to whoever might be willing to haul them, could keep them.
Discussion was held on updating board policies that have to be reviewed every five years. Most of the conversation focused on a new proposed policy dealing with service animals. The policies were approved except for tabling policy 105 to next month, to get legal guidance on service animals.
Milk and bread bids were reviewed and approved for the upcoming year.
Several resignations were accepted, including Jamie Haugen from Ag/FFA teaching position and several coaching positions dealing with cross country, assistant girls track, head softball, and assistant softball.
Several new hires were approved:
• Whitney Spies for sixth and seventh grade science
• Drake Abbey for Business Manager/Board Secretary
• Kelsey Sands for Ag/FFA Advisor (pending program completion)
• Terry Ringham for full-time route bus driver
There were two open enrollments in from Forest City and two out for Forest City.
Financials were reviewed and next meeting was set for Monday, Aug. 13.
