Prescribed fire notification

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources plans to conduct prescribed burns this spring in your area. Prescribed burn units are typically burned every one to five years and vary in size from 10 to 500 acres or more. Prescribed burns are used to improve wildlife habitat, control invasive plant species, restore and maintain native plant communities and reduce wildfire potential. Most prescribed burns will take place between the months of March and May. Burns will be conducted on a day that meets the objectives and weather prescription defined in the burn plan.
Locally burns are planned to occur on land managed by the Iowa DNR—Clear Lake Wildlife Unit. This includes burns in Cerro Gordo, Franklin, Hancock, Winnebago, Worth and Wright County.
Specific areas are: Beaver Dam WPA, Buffalo Basins WMA, Crystal Hills WMA, Crystal Lake WMA, Eagle Flats WMA/WPA, Eagle Lake WMA/WPA, Elk Creek WMA, Gabrielson WMA, Good Neighbors Marsh WMA, Hanlontown WPA, Harmon Lake WMA, Hogsback WPA, Jason Smith WMA, Lake Edwards WMA, Lower Morse Lake WMA/WPA, Meredith Marsh WMA/WPA, Myre Slough WMA, Peterson Potholes WMA, Rice Lake WMA/WPA and Union Hills WPA.
If you have any questions or concerns about a prescribed burn in your area you can contact DNR Wildlife Biologist T.J. Herrick at 641-425-2814.
