National Night Out Returns

After a brief hiatus, National Night Out is returning to Lake Mills for 2016. This year, the event will be held at Oakwood Park, Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 5-7 p.m., with several returning favorites, as well as some new demonstrations and activities for the entire family.
“We enjoy doing this kind of event, and getting out among the public,” said Lake Mills Police Chief, Dave Thomas. “Several of us (in public safety) thought it was a good event to bring back to the people of Lake Mills this year.”
Parents for DC will be serving up hot dogs, chips and drinks for a free-will donation, while refreshments will also be available from Double Dip Ice Cream.
New for 2016, the event will also serve as a collection point for the Lake Mills Area Food Bank, as citizens are asked to bring along a non-perishable food item to donate. The Lake Mills Parks and Recreation Department will be sponsoring a water safety demonstration, combined with a free swim for those attending the event.
In addition, the Lake Mills Police Department will be fingerprinting children, the Lake Mills Volunteer Fire Department will be giving rides on their antique truck, and also setting up a mini waterball fight for kids to try. The Lake Mills Ambulance Service will be giving free blood pressure checks, as well as demonstarting and allowing tours of their other equipment and ambulance units. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department will be bringing their K9 officer, and he will give a demonstration of his abilities, plus other activities sponsored by the Winnebago County Task Force Against Substance Abuse and other local businesses.
