Naeve Alumni and Nurses Club held annual meeting, honored classes and awarded scholarships
Eleven area high school students have recently been awarded scholarships from the Naeve Alumni and Nurses Club. The $1,000 scholarships are awarded every year to students who plan to pursue nursing degrees.
The Naeve Alumni and Nurses Club celebrated their 100 year anniversary in 2017. Seventeen students graduated from that first class in 1917. The organization was formed in hopes to continue promoting the nursing profession while helping support future nurses.
One hundred sixty-three scholarships have been given out since 1983.
At the awards banquet, the future nurses got to meet former Naeve School of Nurses graduates from years past, including those who were part of the graduating class of 1958 (60 years ago): Jane (Johnson) Crowe, Anna (Pischner) Heideman, Marion (Mueller) Carter, Marlys (Weiler) Sanford, Sharon (Seefeld) Hayward, and Beryl (Burch) Knudson. Not pictured: Jone (Anderson) Jensen, Beverly (Eng) Ross, Sharon (Muller) Hulke, Ruth (Roland) Sheets, and Madge (LaDue) Goss.
The Classes of 1963 and 1968 were also honored during the luncheon: Carolyn (Strom) Fure, Carolyn (Matson) Broers, Carole Lohmann, Marilyn (Hall) Niemi, Cleano (Johnson) Benson, Emily (Fethke) Svendsen, and Genie (Pilz) Hanson. Not pictured: Suzanne Abbe, JoAnn (Abel) Conn, Betty (Kangas) Selbitschka, Dianne (Neitzel) Burmeister, Dawn (Peaslee) Allen, Judith (Rasmussen) Brown, Carmen (Stevens) Bornzin, Sonata (Thompson) Jorund, Rebecca (Marshall) Connoly, Suzanne (Anderson) Zeller, Karlene (Elwood) Moyotte, and Ruth (Gilbert) Sommers. The awards presentation was part of the organization’s annual luncheon Saturday, May 5, at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, Minn.
