Minnesota Bus Trip scheduled

In September, the Hancock and Winnebago County Conservation Boards will be sponsoring a motorcoach excursion to southwestern Minnesota to enjoy “Petroglyphs and Prairies.” The trip will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, and will include two destinations and two meal stops. The focus of the trip will be the Native American culture of southern Minnesota (including the fascinating rock drawings they created) and the prairies that they called home.
The bus will depart from Garner and Forest City early in the morning and will travel first to the Pipestone National Monument, Pipestone, Minn. There, everyone will have the opportunity to browse through the visitor center and museum, watch a film about the monument, and view demonstrations. After a lunch stop in Pipestone, the tour will continue on to the Jeffers Petroglyphs State Historic Site. While there, everyone will get to view Native American and prairie displays in the visitor center, watch a short film, and take a guided tour of the petroglyphs (rock drawings). After a dinner stop in Jackson, Minn., the excursion will return to Garner and Forest City later that evening.
The “Petroglyphs and Prairies” Bus Tour will be led by Winnebago County Naturalist Lisa Ralls and Hancock County Naturalist Jason Lackore. The cost covers everything except the two meals. Members of the Friends of Winnebago County Conservation Foundation will receive a discount.
People wishing to sign up for the trip should send their checks (made out to the WCCB) and contact information to the WCCB at 34496 110th Ave., Forest City, Iowa, 50436.
Trip packets, including the trip itinerary will be mailed out to all participants about a week before the trip.
If anyone would like more information about the trip, they can contact Lisa Ralls at 641-565-3390 or Jason Lackore at 641-923-2720.
