Lake Mills to celebrate July Jubilee this weekend

The annual Lake Mills July Jubilee celebration is this weekend, Friday, July 13 through Sunday, July 15. Residents and visitors are encouraged to come enjoy all sorts of activities throughout the weekend.
West Main Street will begin closing down in the early afternoon Friday, July 13, to allow for event set up. Traffic will be re-routed (coming from the west) to the north or south via any of the roads between Park Street and Mill Street, and (coming from the east) north or south on Lake Street.
The July Jubilee Committee has a schedule jam packed with fun for all ages. Visit the Truman Helgeson Civic Center for a bake sale starting at 9 a.m., Friday, July 13. After which, enjoy an appreciation lunch at MBT Bank from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. The Lake Mills Area Historical Society will hold their annual Wine Tasting & Hors d’oeuvres fundraiser at the 1901 Victorian House & Gardens from 5–7 p.m. Friday, and the Second Annual July Jubilee Slow Pitch Softball tournament will begin around 6 p.m. at the Leonard Fjelstad Sports Complex.
The main event, the Lake Mills Community Night, will begin downtown at 6 p.m. Admission is free to all and there will be activities and entertainment throughout the night. Retail vendors and local businesses will be open for some shopping and activities. The Little Mr. and Ms. Lake Mills contest will be held at 6:30 p.m. downtown, where two young Lake Mills residents will be named as Little Mr. & Ms. Lake Mills, winning a ride in the July Jubilee parade. Dietrich Custom DJ Services will be MC-ing the event and will keep the tunes coming throughout the night.
Saturday, July 14, holds the bulk of July Jubilee events, starting at 7:30 a.m. with the 12th Annual July Jubilee 5K. Registration opens at 6:45 a.m., or check-in early by visiting Lake Mills Physical Therapy, Friday afternoon between noon and 5 p.m. The July Jubilee parade starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, following a route that travels south on South Winnebago Street, west on S. 10th Ave. E., and north on South Lake Street, to where the route ends at S. 1st Ave. W.
The Fine Arts Guild will host the Second Annual July Jubilee Art Show at Oakwood Park from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. All proceeds will be used to create fine arts scholarships for local students. Parents for D.C. will be hosting their annual picnic fundraiser at Oakwood Park from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. The menu includes pulled pork sandwich, potato salad, chips and a drink. A “Kids Meal” (hot dog, chips, cookie and drink) will also be available. The group will also host a $25 Teluwut Gift Certificate giveaway drawing. All proceeds will help fund the eighth grade trip to Washington, D.C. Oakwood Park will also host a variety of free entertainment Saturday afternoon, including bounce houses and games from noon to 3:30 p.m., and kids pedal pull at 3 p.m. The Annual Tot Triathlon will begin at its new time, 5 p.m., at the Lake Mills Family Aquatic Center, Saturday evening.
Other Saturday activities include the Seventh Grade Project Citizen class which will host a Historic Walking Tour starting at the Lake Mills Public Library, between 1:30–3:30 p.m., and the Burnap Country School will be open between 2–4 p.m. The July Jubilee Men’s Slow Pitch Softball tournament will continue Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Leonard Fjelstad Sports Complex.
 Downtown will start to liven up Saturday afternoon as well. BINGO will be held at the Truman Helgeson Civic Center from 1-4 p.m. by the Lake Mills Ambulance Service. Stensrud Insurance will host a bags tournament beginning at 2 p.m. on West Main Street. Registration for the bags tournament is full. Live music will begin at 5 Alarm Brewing Company with Joshua Sinclair from 3–6 p.m. Street access will be restricted after 7 p.m. to those wearing the silicone admission wrist bands, and Boogie and the Yo-yo’z will take center stage at 8 p.m.
Attendees can purchase admission bracelets for the Saturday street dance early by visiting the LMCDC office at 203 N. 1st Ave. W. before Wednesday, July 11, or at the Community Night, Friday, July 13.
There will be two raffle drawings held during the street dance on Saturday. The Lions Club is holding a raffle for a flat screen TV and the Lake Mills Fire Dept. is holding a raffle for two sightseeing packages, a meat package, and a business gift card package. Tickets are available from Lions Club members and LMFD firefighters.
Grab some breakfast Sunday morning at the annual Legion Breakfast fundraiser at the Truman Helgeson Civic Center from 8 a.m.–Noon, and catch a movie at ‘The Mills’ Theater which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary all weekend with nightly movie showings at 7 and 7:30 p.m., and matinees Sunday at 3 and 3:30 p.m.
