Jensen files to face Gassman

Debra (Deb) Jensen of Forest City is running as the Democratic candidate for Iowa House District 7. She announced her candidacy at the Winnebago County Democratic Convention.
House District 7 encompasses all of Winnebago and Emmet counties and the top portion of Kossuth, including Algona.
“I’ve grown concerned about the trend in Iowa to privatize programs funded with public money,” said Jensen. “My winning in November will mean the 7th District has someone who is looking out for their investment in needed government services.”
Her platform includes halting assaults on collective bargaining; protecting public education funding; restoring Medicaid management; increasing mental health services; and preserving services for children, vulnerable adults, persons with disabilities, and seniors. She also is a proponent of environmental protection laws that aid family farms and tax reform that rewards working families more than corporations.
Deb and her husband, Paul, a retired math teacher, have lived in Forest City for 34 years.
Deb is a registered nurse with 35 years experience in healthcare, most recently in county public health. Her previous experience includes medical, surgical, obstetrical, and chemical dependency nursing care in addition to long-term care and hospice support. She also owned a bridal business for 11 years while being a mother of four.
