Gassman votes for water bill
Last week, Rep. Tedd Gassman (R-Scarville) voted in support of Senate File 512, a bill that provides a sustainable, long-term funding source for water quality improvement projects in Iowa.
The bill provides a multi-year funding plan to support water quality improvements across the state. It creates a financing structure and programs to improve water quality for both urban and rural projects using funds from an existing tax that Iowans pay on metered water as well as infrastructure dollars.
“This bill makes a substantial, long-term investment in water quality improvements and infrastructure across our state,” said Gassman. “This will ensure that Iowans will have access to clean drinking water and that our natural resources will be preserved for future generations to enjoy.”
The nonpartisan Legislative Services Agency (LSA) estimates that the legislation will provide $282 million in new funding over the next 12 years.
The bill passed on a bipartisan vote of 59-41 and was sent to Governor Kim Reynolds for her signature.
