Drs. Haugsdal featured speakers at Back-to-School Breakfast

Dr. Jaclyn (Grotewold) and Dr. Michael Haugsdal were the featured speakers at the annual Back-to-School Breakfast last Thursday morning, Aug. 16. The couple grew up together, attending Lake Mills Community School and graduating in 2004. After high school, they continued their academic adventure together at the University of Iowa, graduating in 2008. They were married in 2009, and then attended Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa, receiving their doctorates in 2013. Jaclyn pursued a career in opthalmology and visual sciences, while Michael chose obstetrics and gynecology.
The Haugsdals make their home in North Liberty with their twin daughters, Issa and Audrey, who will be starting four-year-old preschool this fall.
The couple titled their speech, “Viva la L.E.R.C.H.,” reflecting on the mission at Lake Mills Community School, and how it has applied to them after high school. They discussed their day-to-day work schedules at the Unviersity of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and about growing up, and now working, in what they termed a “learning community.”
Superintendent Chad Kohagen introduced the new teachers for the school year and gave an update on the improvements made at the school over the summer. Current and retired teachers were recognized for their years of service at the school.
The annual breakfast is sponsored by the Lake Mills Chamber Development Corporation, with donations from area businesses.
