Detour

Work officially began last week on the S. Winnebago St. project, as crews began digging at the intersection of S. 4th Ave., E. and Winnebago St. Public Works Director, Ross Hanson, said that this was chosen as the starting area, as it provided the most flexibility with scheduling. “The intersection is the most congested area on the project, so getting the water main out of the way will be a great start,” he said. Once the tie in of the old water main to the new water main is complete, crews can work on the rest of the water main moving south along the project area.  
It is expected that the water main work in the intersection will be completed yet this week, allowing the intersection to reopen to traffic as they continue to move south.  
The project area will be closed to thru traffic throughout the entire construction project. It will remain open from one end or another (depending on the area the contractor is working in) for residents living along the street.
