Community Healthcare Collaborative kicks-off

The Community Engagement group, a team that originated through Mayo Clinic Health System and City of Albert Lea Facilitated Dialogue and initially charged with assessing Mayo Clinic Health System engagement in the community, has announced that going forward it will focus on opportunities to enhance health and wellbeing within the community. In November, the group adopted a new name called Community Healthcare Collaborative and a revised mission statement.
The Community Healthcare Collaborative’s mission is “Community partners collaborating to improve the health and well-being of the community through awareness, education and resources.” Members include representatives from Blue Zones, Senior Resources of Freeborn County, the city of Albert Lea, Freeborn County Public Health, the Albert Lea Family Y, MCHS–Albert Lea and Austin and Thorne Crest Senior Living Community.
The group officially launched Tuesday, Jan. 15.
The structure of the group includes a core team responsible for setting the overall strategy and priorities and assuring alignment, and workgroups that will focus on a key population or issues that are of utmost importance to the community.  Workgroups will share their work with the core team to assure coordination and collaboration across the groups.  Initial focus areas include:
• Families (Parents & Children)
• Seniors
• Populations impacted by barriers to accessing healthcare.
• Mental Well-Being
• Worksite Wellness
Previous deliverables include programs such as:
• Health Talk Series for seniors,
• Mayo Clinic Health System presence at Wind Down Wednesday and the Freeborn County Fair, and:
• Clarifying options about ways to best access care.
“The most significant development brought forward by this group has been the increased collaboration with community partners, particularly Freeborn County Public Health,” said Tricia Dahl, Operations Administrator at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea and Austin.
Community members are encouraged to get involved at the workgroup level to broaden the reach and input into the planning and programming. Core Team and workgroups will meet on alternate months to maintain momentum and support for various initiatives identified.
