Charise Schwarm named 2018 “Friend of the School”

Each year, the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) provides “Friend of the School” awards to allow schools to honor an individual who supports school activities in her respective school district and enjoys working on behalf of students.
This year, Lake Mills Community School is honoring Charise Schwarm with the award for her efforts on behalf of students.
In his nomination, Athletic Director, Jim Boehmer, wrote of Schwarm: Every year for 20 years, Charise has planned and led the Senior Class trip to the State Capitol. Due to the work she does, our students are able to tour the capitol, meet our state representatives and the Governor of Iowa. She also sets up other speakers, such as lobbyists, journalists and other statewide elected officials. Charise also organizes our trip to Terrace Hill, where the students learn the history of the Iowa Governor’s home. She spends countless hours planning this trip for our senior class.
IHSAA Executive Director, Alan Beste said of the annual award: “The ISHAA is grateful for all individuals at the local level who assist schools throughout the year with high school activities. Whether they serve as public address announcers, scorekeepers, timers, accompanists, assist with theatrical sets and productions, or other school programs, the IHSAA knows they are important to the success of local school programs. The Athletic Association is pleased to be able to honor these individuals.”
