Candidate forum planned

Once again the Lake Mills Graphic and Winn-Worth BETCO have teamed up to sponsor a candidate forum, to allow residents of Winnebago and Worth Counties the opportunity to meet those seeking to represent them on the county level and Des Moines in this November’s election.
All local and state candidates have been invited, with most planning on attending. Included are candidates for County Supervisor; County Sheriff; State Senator; and, State Representative.
Candidates will be given several minutes to introduce themselves, before taking questions from the audience. All wishing to question the candidates will be asked to write their questions, and hand them to a volunteer during the event. This way, we will try to ensure that one race or office does not dominate the evening, and all candidates have an opportunity to participate.
In that same vein, we will strive to keep the evening short, and have invited the candidates to stick around after the formal program to mingle with those in attendance, and answer any questions that were not asked during the forum. We will begin proceedings promptly at 7 p.m., and would like the formal proceedings to end by 8:30, giving time to interact with the candidates in a less structured environment.
“At the local level, we as citizens, have the most impact on elections, and policy that occurs once these people are in office,” noted Lake Mills Graphic publisher, Terry Gasper. “That is why it is important for us to not only vote, but also to get to know the candidates, their beliefs and values prior to going to the polls, which is why events like this are important.”
