Auditions upcoming for ‘On Golden Pond’

Auditions for On Golden Pond will be held Monday, Feb. 12, and Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in BrickStreet Theatre at 122 N. Clark Street. The show, written by Ernest Thompson, calls for a cast of six: three adult males (age ranges mid-60s to 80 and mid-40s to mid-50s) plus a teen male (age 12 to 16) and two females (age ranges mid-60s to 80 and mid-40s to mid-50s). Those interested do not need to sign up. Actors should come prepared to cold read a few scenes.    
On Golden Pond, written in 1979, tells the story of an aging couple, Norman and Ethel Thayer, who face conflict when their adult daughter, Chelsea Thayer, and her dentist finance, Bill Ray, visit the family’s lake cabin during their annual summer at the lake. All their lives gain new focus when Billy Ray, Jr., stays with Norman and Ethel while his father and Chelsea travel to Europe. The show depicts the complexity of family relationships with sensitivity and humor. The play was made into a movie starring Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn in 1981.    
Joy Newcom will direct the show with support from Vanessa Doden as stage manager.
