Art Center moves to new building

The Albert Lea Art Center has moved to the former Tiger Sports building located at 101 S. Broadway Ave., Albert Lea, Minn. The building was sold to the Art Center in June and moved last month. The organization looked at 30 to 40 buildings, before purchasing the Tiger Sports building.
Art Center president, Tom Ferleman, commented, “It became time to expand and enlarge the Art Center. We wanted our own building.”
The new building is expected to provide the chance to show the work of more than one artist at a time and have larger displays. The Art Center will have also a permanent collection of art pieces.
A creative space will be located in a separate room.
“We’re hoping that when people walk in, they feel comfortable enough to look at the displays, and then have a comfortable space just to sit and talk about,” said Charlene Marley, arts administrator.
The Art Center has expanded its hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
“We’re excited to be where we are: in the hub of Albert Lea, commented Art Center member, Beth Tostenson.
