“Newsies” auditions

After a successful first season, Powerhouse Theatre (PHT) is ready to go for the next summer show. Last season, PHT showcased “Footloose,” which was a rockin’ good time for many in the North Iowa area. With the talent of many local students from Forest City, Clear Lake, Lake Mills, Garner, and Waldorf University, the show was a SOLD OUT hit. In addition to the summer musical, PHT offered several workshops throughout the year, with performing actors and dancers from Minneapolis leading classes about the performing arts.
This summer, Powerhouse Theatre is at it again. PHT will be performing the Broadway smash hit “Newsies.” Set during the turn of the 20th century, “Newsies” follows the events of the real life Newsboys strike of 1899. It features compelling characters, fantastic dance numbers, and the music of Alan Menken. There are many parts to fill, from those of the “Newsies” (ages 10-25) to historic adult roles (25-65), such as Joseph Pulitzer and Teddy Roosevelt.
PHT will be holding auditions for “Newsies” April 1-4 from 3:30-5 p.m., as well as April 6, from Noon-4 p.m. There will also be dancer only auditions Sunday, April 14, from 1-2 p.m. at the Dancing His Praises studio on Hwy. 18, Clear Lake.
