Enjoy the Fourth of July weekend in Northwood

Northwood will celebrate the Fourth of July over three days this year, July 4-6.
The Fourth of July will include a pancake breakfast, parade, Miss Northwood awards, pedal pull, horseshoe tourney, and finish off the day with fireworks at the airport at 10 p.m.
Friday evening, July 5, there  will be a pool party from 5-7 p.m. for kids in grades K-12, a root beer garden, and activities at the community center at 5 p.m.
Saturday kicks off with a run/walk at 8:30 a.m. The softball tournament starts at 9 a.m., and golfers can hit the course at 10 a.m. for the golf tournament at the Northwood Country Club. The community center will once again have a root beer garden and activities for kids starting at 5 p.m.
Three performances will be held on Central Ave. over the Fourth of July weekend, July 5-6.
“There is no cover charge for any of these three events.” commented Teresa George-Zenz, Northwood Chamber of Commerce director. “A family friendly beverage garden will be available in the blocked off area on Central Ave. for the event.”
Angel Val, singer/songwriter from Minnesota makes her third appearance, as she performed in 2016-2017. Val has recently released her second CD of songs, which she has written. She will perform an acoustic show at 8 p.m., Friday, July 5. Angel began writing songs at age 15, when she began playing guitar. Her songs are from the heart and from personal experiences and relationships. Angel has been compared to artists such as Jewel, Miranda Lambert, Lady antebelium and the Pretty Reckless.
“The Trip,” is a California-based high-energy and classic band that takes you on a musical journey from the 60s thru today’s hits. They are one of the top booked bands in Californa and have won multiple “Top rock cover bands” awards. They will perform at 9 p.m., Friday, July 5. This group will be on a three-day Heartland Tour which includes Okoboji, Northwood, and Clear Lake.
“The Dweebs” are a Wisconsin-based family band featuring Michael Blue, his two sons, and his daughter, who will bring an interactive, unique and adaptable show. Their colorful costumes, crazy stage antics, and lots of crowd participation are all a staple at any Dweeb performance, along with listening to all your favorite hits from the 60s through today. The group has over 30 years experience in the music industry. Young and old will be entertained with this show. Showtime is 9 p.m., Saturday, July 6
